Zootopia 2 (also titled Zootropolis 2 or Zoomania 2 in some regions) is an upcoming American animated buddy-cop comedy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Serving as the sequel to the 2016 hit Zootopia, the film is directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard, written by Bush, and produced by Yvett Merino.

Returning voice stars include Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, and Shakira, joined by new cast members such as Ke Huy Quan, Fortune Feimster, Andy Samberg, David Strathairn, Patrick Warburton, and Quinta Brunson.

The story once again follows Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde as they pursue Zootopia’s newest and most mysterious reptilian resident, Gary De’Snake.

Production

The idea of a sequel first surfaced in 2016, soon after the success of the original film.
In February 2023, Disney CEO Bob Iger officially confirmed Zootopia 2 was in active development.
Director and screenwriter Jared Bush began writing, while Byron Howard returned as co-director.

Actress Ginnifer Goodwin shared that she wanted to see a role reversal between Judy and Nick, with Nick convincing Judy that the world is worth fighting for.
Jason Bateman envisioned the duo “cleaning up the streets” together as full-fledged cops.

The sequel introduces reptiles to the Zootopia world, with Ke Huy Quan voicing Gary the snake.
Fortune Feimster, Macaulay Culkin, Brenda Song, Patrick Warburton, Danny Trejo, and Wilmer Valderrama were later announced as part of the cast.

The film’s creative team includes producer Yvett Merino, with Jared Bush also serving as Chief Creative Officer at Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Music

Shakira returns as Gazelle — not only voicing the character but also writing a new song for the film with Ed Sheeran and Blake Slatkin.
The song, titled “Zoo,” appears in the official trailer (released September 29, 2025) and hit streaming platforms on October 10, 2025.

Composer Michael Giacchino also returns to score the film, with the soundtrack releasing on November 21, 2025.
