Star Wars fans are losing their minds right now.
On January 14, 2026, during a surprise panel at Star Wars Celebration Japan, Lucasfilm dropped a massive bombshell: a brand-new Kylo Ren project is officially in development.
No title, no release date, no confirmed format yet — but the tease was unmistakable, and it has sent shockwaves through the fandom.
The Official Tease (What Lucasfilm Actually Showed)
During the “Looking Ahead: Star Wars Stories in Development” panel, a short 30-second sizzle reel played. It included quick flashes of upcoming projects — Andor Season 2, The Mandalorian & Grogu, Rey’s New Jedi Order movie — and then, at the very end, this:

- The iconic cracked Kylo Ren helmet slowly rotates into frame

Shawn Levy (director of Starfighter) also teased during the same panel:

Possible Formats – What Could This Project Be?
No official word yet, but here are the most realistic possibilities fans are discussing:
- Limited Series on Disney+ Most likely format. 6–8 episodes exploring Kylo’s life after The Rise of Skywalker, his redemption arc aftermath, or a prequel story during his Knights of Ren days.
- Standalone Movie A feature film with Adam Driver returning. Could be set between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, or post-sequel trilogy.
- Animated Series / Special Less likely (Adam Driver’s live-action commitment), but possible for flashbacks or a younger Ben Solo story.
- Comic / Novel Tie-In First Lucasfilm often tests fan reaction with comics/novels before committing to screen. Possible first step.

Kylo Ren (Ben Solo) is widely considered one of the best characters of the sequel trilogy. Adam Driver’s performance was praised even by people who hated the films. His internal conflict, rage, vulnerability, and eventual redemption made him iconic.
