Spaceballs 2 Gets Official Title and First Look
The highly anticipated sequel to Mel Brooks’ iconic 1987 sci-fi comedy parody is finally here. Amazon MGM Studios unveiled the first footage and official title for the long-awaited follow-up at CinemaCon 2024, giving fans their first glimpse of what to expect when Spaceballs: The New One arrives in theaters.
The sequel’s title plays on Brooks’ original joke about the first film, which teased a follow-up called “Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money.” In a video message presented at CinemaCon, Brooks humorously explained that the sequel no longer needs that title because he finally found the money. The new official title, Spaceballs: The New One, perfectly captures the film’s irreverent humor with the tagline “just like the old one, but it’s newer.”
What the CinemaCon Footage Revealed
During the presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, attendees were treated to an exclusive trailer that documented the sequel’s journey from concept to screen. While the footage didn’t reveal specific plot details, it showcased what the creative team has been developing over the years.
The presentation highlighted the return of beloved characters from the original film, with many original cast members reprising their iconic roles more than three decades later. Given that the original Spaceballs The New One sequel didn’t rely heavily on plot, the sequel is expected to follow a similar comedic formula focused on humor and parody rather than complex storytelling.
