James Gunn’s DC Universe is ramping up excitement for its second major film release. At CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas, Warner Bros. Discovery unveiled exclusive new footage from the upcoming Supergirl movie, featuring star Milly Alcock, Jason Momoa, and director Craig Gillespie. The presentation offered fans an inside look at Kara Zor-El’s solo adventure in the DCU.
Supergirl Fights Off Alien Raiders in Space
The footage begins with Supergirl discovering a mysterious spacecraft landing in the desert. After boarding the vessel, she encounters a diverse array of alien passengers—creatures reminiscent of the Mos Eisley Cantina from Star Wars. The scene takes a dramatic turn when civilian raiders teleport aboard, seeking to plunder the ship’s fuel and valuables.
When the raiders demand Supergirl’s watch, she initially complies, but her patience wears thin when they confiscate a sword from Ruthye, a young girl she knows. Supergirl stands up to the thieves, engaging in an intense battle across the ship’s cramped interior. During the fight, she accidentally strikes civilian passengers, landing on the ceiling, floor, and in passengers’ laps as the ship becomes a chaotic battlefield.
A Daring Space Confrontation
The action escalates when Supergirl, wearing a stolen spacesuit, gets sucked into the vacuum of space by the raiders. While floating slowly through the cosmic void, the pilot aboard ship quips, “I knew I should have called in sick today.” Ruthye watches in distress as Supergirl drifts away.
But this is far from the end of the fight. Smiling and clenching her fist, Supergirl unleashes her full power, dismantling spider robots attacking the vessel. When struck by a laser from a massive overhead warship, she’s propelled deeper into space. Supergirl then flies toward the sun, drawing the larger ship into pursuit. In a stunning display of her abilities, she matches the vessel’s laser fire with her own heat vision and destroys the ship, removing its power source.

Superman Makes a Surprise Appearance
The footage transitions to show Supergirl’s reunion with Ruthye on various alien planets. When Ruthye expresses shock that any Kryptonians survived, asking about Superman, Supergirl delivers a telling response: “He’s a freaking nerd who sees the good in everyone, and I see the truth.” Superman then appears on screen, casually waving at the camera and greeting viewers directly.
Jason Momoa Returns as Lobo in the DCU
The footage also features Jason Momoa in his new role as Lobo, the notorious DC bounty hunter. In a memorable moment, Lobo recognizes Supergirl, referring to her as “the girl from the dive bar.” This casting marks Momoa’s transition from his previous role as Aquaman in the DCEU to a major character in Gunn’s DC Universe.
The footage culminates with action sequences showing Supergirl protecting Ruthye in battle before revealing the Supergirl movie 2026 logo.
Building the DCU with Kryptonian Heroes
The Supergirl movie 2026 is based on Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s acclaimed comic series “Woman of Tomorrow.” This film marks a significant moment for the DCU, as it establishes both Kryptonian heroes as central figures in Gunn’s franchise. Milly Alcock’s Supergirl previously appeared in Superman (2025) in a special cameo, where she retrieved Krypto, who returns in the new film.
David Corenswet, who debuted as Superman in 2025, will reprise his role in Supergirl before returning as the Man of Steel in 2027’s “Man of Tomorrow,” which begins shooting this month.
What’s Next for the DCU in 2026
After Supergirl arrives in theaters on June 26, 2026, the DCU’s “Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters” lineup continues with other major releases. The Batman horror film “Clayface” opens on October 23, 2026. Additionally, the HBO television series “Lanterns” premieres in August, following John Stewart and Hal Jordan’s adventures as the Emerald Knights, with Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler in the lead roles.
Supergirl is scheduled for theatrical release on June 26, 2026, marking another pivotal entry in James Gunn’s reimagined DC Universe.
